Life Is
"Life Is" centers on Nora, who is nearing 40 and begins to ponder the meaning of life. Her father died at this age, adding to her reflections. Navigating a relationship after a threesome presents unique challenges, and confronting life's realities is difficult. Life is a blend of beauty, pain, and chaos. The film is directed by Lorena Villarreal Treviño.

A trailblazer in twenty-first-century Mexican fantasy and horror cinema, she demonstrated the potential of Mexican legends as cinematic inspiration in 2004 when no one else did. Her film "Las Lloronas" (2004) revived the mythical figure of Mexico’s weeping mother on the big screen after a 30-year hiatus, following her defeat by El Santo and Mantequilla Nápoles in "La Venganza de la Llorona" (1974).

After Villarreal’s film succeeded, the industry began to pay attention, and the genre slowly gained traction on Mexican screens. Today, encountering a fantasy film directed, co-produced, and co-written by a woman is not unusual, but in 2004, Lorena Villarreal broke new ground as only the second woman in Mexico to achieve this. Before her, only Isela Vega had taken that path with "Las Amantes del Señor de la Noche" (1986).
