During World War II, a young Iris is sent to the countryside to live with her sister and uncle. As she adjusts to this new environment, she discovers a secret affair between her sister and a land girl. Still traumatized and terrified after witnessing the bombing of her street, she misunderstands the situation and views the land girl as a monstrous danger to herself and her sister. This distorted view leads Iris to commit a catastrophic act, unknowingly sealing a tragic outcome for everyone involved.
